Duplicate SKU Checker
Find SKUs that appear more than once in a Shopify CSV or supplier spreadsheet — including SKUs that differ only by upper/lower case, which many apps and suppliers treat as the same. It also finds duplicate variants, products that would end up with the same handle, and barcodes that Excel has damaged.

How to use the duplicate sku checker
- Drop your product CSV or supplier file. Supplier column names like “Item Code” or “Artikelnummer” are recognised automatically.
- See every duplicate with both row numbers.
- Decide which rows to keep or renumber in your source file.
What it checks
- Exact duplicate SKUs: The same SKU on two variants — within one product or across products.
- Case-only duplicates: “HP-RUN-01” and “hp-run-01”.
- Duplicate variants: Two rows with the same option combination for the same product.
- Handle clashes: Two different products that would get the same URL handle and merge on import.
- Damaged identifiers: SKUs and barcodes in scientific notation (8.71E+12), barcodes with wrong check digits or a lost leading zero.
Example
A SKU reused with different capitalisation:
| Row | Title | SKU |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Café Table Runner | HP-RUN-01 |
| 3 | (empty) | hp-run-01 |
Row 3: “hp-run-01” and “HP-RUN-01” differ only in capitalisation. Many apps and suppliers treat them as the same SKU.
Questions
Does Shopify allow duplicate SKUs?
Shopify will import them, but duplicate SKUs make inventory sync, fulfillment apps, supplier orders and reports unreliable. Most stores should keep SKUs unique.
Does it change my SKUs?
No. The checker only reports duplicates. Choosing which SKU to change is a business decision CatalogPilot leaves to you.
Can it check barcodes too?
Yes — it validates GTIN/EAN/UPC check digits and spots barcodes that a spreadsheet converted to scientific notation or stripped of a leading zero.
