FAQ
Frequently asked questions
- Is my file uploaded to your servers?
- No. Parsing, checking, mapping, repairing and exporting all run in your web browser using JavaScript. The file's contents never leave your device. We only record anonymous usage counts (for example, "a file was checked"), never file names or data.
- Which files can I check?
- CSV, TSV and TXT files with comma, semicolon, tab or pipe separators, and Excel workbooks (.xlsx; the first sheet with data). Up to 15 MB, 50,000 rows and 300 columns.
- Does it work with supplier spreadsheets, not just Shopify exports?
- Yes. Supplier column names (RRP, Item Code, Colour, Artikelnummer…) are matched to Shopify's columns by an on-device model, and variant rows are grouped into products using a Parent SKU column or the product name.
- What does the AI actually do?
- A small machine-learning model, trained on hundreds of labelled supplier header variations, suggests which Shopify column each of your columns belongs to, and value checks confirm or contradict it. It shows a confidence score and asks you to confirm uncertain matches. It does not write product descriptions or fill in missing data.
- Will it make up missing prices, titles or SKUs?
- Never. If information is missing or unreadable, CatalogPilot reports it and leaves it for you. It only fixes things that can be corrected reliably — like removing a currency symbol or converting kg to grams — and asks before ambiguous changes.
- Does a clean result guarantee my Shopify import will work?
- No tool can guarantee that. CatalogPilot follows Shopify's published CSV documentation and official template, but Shopify's importer has the final say and can change. Always test-import a few products first.
- Which Shopify CSV format do you export?
- Shopify's current product CSV column names, as in the official template. Older column names in your file (Handle, Variant Price, Image Src…) are recognised and converted.
- Why are some of my columns missing from the corrected file?
- Columns with no Shopify equivalent are left out, because Shopify can reject unknown columns. Columns that were empty in your file aren't added either — with "Overwrite products with matching handles", blank columns would erase data in your store.
- Is CatalogPilot made by Shopify?
- No. CatalogPilot AI is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Shopify Inc.
- How much does it cost?
- It's free during the beta. Later, checking will stay free and a full repair of large files is planned to cost a one-time fee per file. See the pricing page.
